Billerud is a signatory to and supports the content of the international and voluntary UN Global Compact’s ten principles on human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption and applied to join during 2009.
This means that Billerud formally backs the internationally adopted documents on which these principles are based:
- The UN’s Global Compact on sustainable business practices,
- The OECD’s guidelines for multinational companies
- The ILO’s fundamental conventions on human rights at work,
Billerud also complies with Principle 15 of the Rio Declaration on the Precautionary Approach, which means working preventively and to minimise risk throughout the business.
From 2010 onwards Billerud will also be complying with the guidelines of the international organisation Global Reporting Initiative for sustainability reporting that were drawn up in a “multistakeholder process”.
Working with others
Billerud actively participates in various collaborative ventures and is a member of a large number of organisations for exchanging knowledge and experiences as well as having access to important networks.
Examples of memberships: Confederation of European Paper Industries (Paper Impact, Eurokraft), European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (Fefco), Glans water council Innventia (pulp and paper research institute), Miljöpack (Swedish group of companies working together for environmentally efficient packaging) etc..
