The FSC® is an international organisation that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Products certified according to FSC® standards must come from forests that are managed responsibly in terms of environmental, social and economic requirements.

The PEFC™ is an international system for forestry certification. The aim is to develop sustainable forestry that maintains a good balance between forest production, the environment and social interests.

BillerudKorsnäs Products and the EU Timber Regulation

The EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) was approved in October 2010 by the European Commission with the purpose to eliminate the risk for illegal timber and wood products to be placed on the European market. The EUTR is valid from 3rd of March 2013.

The EUTR categorize companies as either operators (first placers of timber or wood based products on the EU market) or traders (further down the value chain).

BillerudKorsnäs is defined as an operator when placing timber on the EU market for the first time or a trader when using raw material already placed on the EU market by an operator. As an operator BillerudKorsnäs is obliged to and has a Due Diligence System in place to avoid the use of illegal timber.
