Every year Billerud’s mills in Sweden offer work experience to students and the unemployed. Wages are paid for some of this work, which is either done in the daytime or on shifts.
Each mill has a contact person who organises work experience positions based on available resources and current requirements. If you have a proposal for a suitable assignment for work experience, please send it to the contact person at the mill.
School children
The youngest students offered work experience are aged 14 and 15 and they have 1-2 weeks of work experience scheduled on their curriculum. The mills have established contacts with local schools and a specific number of work experience positions are offered each year.
Vocational programmes at upper secondary schools
Students studying for a specific vocation or profession often spend part of their course at a workplace. These students might be on an industrial or automation programme, for example, or be training to be welders, metal workers or electricians. Each year the mills take care of a number of students who live or study in the local region.
Qualified professional training
In Sweden, certain qualified professional training courses often have requirements that parts of the course are performed at a workplace. These are called Learning at Work schemes (Lära i Arbetslivet, or LIA in Swedish). Billerud usually helps a number of these students each year. They are mainly students studying process technology in Kalix with a focus on the pulp and paper industry, or courses in Karlstad focused on the chemicals and process industries. Click here for more information about qualified professional training.
Universities and colleges
Certain university and college courses also have requirements for work experience. Every summer Billerud helps students do practical work in their field of study. These positions are advertised on our website in January and February and the allocation is announced in April. For work experience outside the summer period, please contact the contact person at the mill.
Work experience via the Swedish Employment Service
The Swedish Employment Service offers work experience positions for a maximum of 8 weeks. Apprenticeships (40 weeks) are also available within certain professions where the purpose is to arrange permanent employment.
