Become a key player in Billerud's SAP Transformation journey as a Release Manager

 

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Release Manager to join our IT team, with a strong focus on managing releases within our SAP S/4HANA landscape. 


This is a new role at Billerud. The final candidate will have the responsibility to create, transform and implement release management processes from the ground up, ideally drawing on prior experience from greenfield SAP implementations, as well as establish relevant forums in order to meet business needs.

 

As the release manager you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing the delivery of changes and new functionalities across our SAP S/4HANA systems and integrated platforms. You will work closely with Process Workstreams in the transformation program, our newly created SAP maintenance team, as well as development teams, Operations, and business stakeholders to ensure high-quality and timely deployments in a complex enterprise environment.


In this role you will be responsible for:

 

Release and Change Management

  • Coordinate release planning and execution across SAP and SAP-connected systems. Examples of components (S/4Hana (L2C, F2P,S2P, A2D, F2C), Ariba, IBP, BTP etc)
  • Prioritize and allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines and resolve conflicts during release cycles.
  • Create, maintain and communicate a global release calendar to minimize business disruption.
  • Serve as the central liaison for coordinating releases with SAP RISE operations, third-party AMS providers and internal development teams.
  • Define and implement standardized release governance processes.
  • Oversee release cutover planning, dry-runs, validation, and post-deployment support readiness.

 

Process Development & Improvement

  • Track and report on release health metrics.
  • Ensure traceability and documentation in SAP Solution Manager, ITSM System and JIRA.

You will be based at any of our sites in Sweden such as Gävle, Gruvön, Frövi, Skärblacka, Karlsborg or Stockholm, Solna.

 

 

Travels to our headquarters in Solna will occur and travels to North America may be required to support Release process and project activities.

 

We don’t offer relocation packages, and a Swedish work permit is requested for this position.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role of IT Release Manager, we believe you have:

  • Documented IT education at university level or equivalent.
  • Documented IT education at university level or equivalent.
  • Experience in designing and implementing release management processes in greenfield SAP S/4HANA environments.
  • Extensive experience in IT project management, or SAP administration, with experience focused on managing SAP landscapes, SAP Solution Manager and ITIL processes.
  • Experience working with cloud environments and coordinating with third-party AMS vendors.
  • Practical understanding of DevOps and agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe).

 

Preferred certifications:

  • ITIL Foundation or Advanced Certification.
  • SAP certifications in relevant modules (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, SAP Cloud Platform).
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) optional.

Strong leadership and coordination skills are essential for orchestrating complex global release cycles across multiple systems and teams. You are structured, strategic and comfortable navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities.
