Summary Description:

Billerud is seeking a highly organized and safety-focused Fiber Supply Team Leader to join our Michigan Fiber Supply team in Escanaba. Safety is our top priority, and this role is expected to lead by example by promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all company, and regulatory safety standards, as well as proactively identifying and addressing potential hazards.

 

This position plays a critical role in supporting daily woodyard operations, including serving as a backup weighmaster and acting as a key liaison between suppliers, truck drivers, operations personnel, and accounting. It is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced industrial environment and values teamwork, accountability, operational excellence, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace. Additionally, the position offers a unique opportunity to obtain a company-sponsored FAA Drone Pilot License (Part 107 certification) and apply drone technology to real-world inventory tracking and operational management.

 

Kvalifikationer

Key Accountabilities / Backup for Weighmasters:

  • Ensures all incoming pulpwood, chips, and residue trucks are properly weighed, and measured for accuracy.
  • Properly identifies wood species and weighs in/out trucks using Billerud’s LIMS system.
  • Inspects loads for material not meeting specifications and makes scale deductions accordingly.
  • Communicates market intelligence gathered from truckers, including out-of-spec loads and related concerns, to the appropriate Fiber Supply team members and woodyard personnel across all Billerud sites.
  • Directs trucks to proper unloading point and overflow storage areas.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes trucks to scale based on woodyard operating activity and needs.
  • Measures all incoming railcars of pulpwood during their shift and authorizes their release to woodyard staff.
  • Maintains strong public relations by interacting courteously and respectfully with wood suppliers, switch crew, contractors, visitors, and fellow Billerud employees.
  • Communicates accurately and effectively with all Billerud team members.
  • Performs weekly species composition estimates for Softwood and Hardwood loads.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices, actively promotes safety, and ensures all mill safety procedures are followed.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills, delivers accurate inventory analysis reports, prioritizes tasks effectively, and consistently completes projects on schedule.
  • May be assigned additional projects or responsibilities beyond the scope of this position, as directed by the Escanaba Sawmill Chip & Wood Fuel Coordinator or the Escanaba Fiber Supply Manager.

 

Additional Responsibilities / FFA Drone Certificate:

  • Performs monthly (or as needed) woodyard inventory assessments using a drone or other measuring methods to generate accurate inventory analysis reports.
  • Performs monthly truck safety audits and driver unloading procedure training.
  • Monitors weekly load deliveries, inventory changes, and takes chip samples from chip suppliers as scheduled.
  • Document and photograph any damage to log trucks that may occur during the unloading process and complete all necessary damage claim reports.
  • Perform routine examination of both scales and dumper control houses for issues.
  • Collaborate with weighmasters to manage vacation and sick schedules, ensuring all shifts remain properly staffed.
  • Provides leadership for the annual safety procedures program at the Escanaba Mill.
  • Perform quarterly chip trailer audits and safety checks.

 

Personliga egenskaper

Required Experience and Education:

  • High school diploma, GED, or BS/AS in forestry and environmental science
  • Some basic knowledge of truck and rail transportation systems and sawmill locations
  • Working knowledge of wood species in the Lake States
  • Basic computer skills (email, data entry, web browser, inventory platforms, LIMS)
  • Basic Written and verbal communication skills

Travel: Some travel required to Quinnesec, sawmill chip suppliers, Billerud remote woodyards and roundwood suppliers
